Coffee: The New Health Food

That’s right; the latest medical research shows that you can improve your health by drinking coffee. Here’s what the experts say:


1. A Journal of the National Cancer Institute report on a study of 48,000 men found that those who drank more than six cups of coffee per day reduced their risk of developing lethal prostate cancer by 60% when compared with non-coffee drinkers. Because prostate cancer is the number one cancer among men over 50, it is certainly good news that coffee is a benign, non-invasive way to reduce this cancer risk. 2. Some other cancer risks are reduced for everyone who increases coffee consumption per a European Society of Medical Oncology report that concluded “ … increased coffee consumption reduces risks of cancers of the oral/pharynx (OP) as coffee drinking is inversely related to OP cancer risk.” Click here for the full article.


3. A recent study conducted at Rutgers University using mice supports the theory that caffeine may even guard against certain skin cancers by inhibiting a protein enzyme in the skin, known as ATR. “Caffeine might become a weapon in prevention because it inhibits ATR and also acts as a sunscreen and directly absorbs damaging UV light,” says the director of the Susan Lehman Cullman Laboratory for Cancer Research. 4. Those with a high risk of heart disease should be aware of the results of six large studies reported by the Cardiology Research Practice that found the “ … risk of a first cardiovascular event was decreased by 67% for those who drank more, rather than less, than eight cups of coffee per day … and lower cardio heart disease mortality is primarily attributed to a protective relationship between caffeinated coffee use and the onset of heart valve disease.” Click here for the full article.


5. “Patients with chronic hepatitis C who drank the most coffee and had failed standard treatment fared better with retreatment,” reported the American Society of Liver Diseases. The Society also concluded that “ … drinking coffee could help slow the progression of fibrosis in patients with fatty liver disease.” Click here for the full article.
